Dream On
I was on my way out of the house saying goodbye to my niece when I chanced upon a Hi-5 show on Nick Jr. of five young Australian ladies and gentlemen dancing to their opening number. What caught my attention were the lines from their song which went, “Dream on, dream of anything. Dream on, dream of everything. Close your eyes and dream what you can be, when you dream…”
A dream is often defined as a series of thoughts and images that occur in a person’s mind during sleep. However, dreams can also refer to a cherished ambition, aspiration or ideal; a thing that is perceived to be wonderful and perfect. As one can dream of becoming an entrepreneur, one also dreams of the possibilities (the business opportunities) that will make him an entrepreneur.
At this point in your life, in the realm of your existence, what are the things that YOU want to see? What do you want to improve on? What are the things that would make the lives of the people around you better? Better yet, what are the things/situations that irritate and bother you to distraction?
I ask these questions to get you started on dreaming of a better life and picturing how to make it happen. Often, only when a person is taken out of his comfort zone and made to feel uncomfortable will he really take resolve to change the situation. It’s been said countless times that an entrepreneur must be passionate about his business idea. Well, passion comes from both sides – as a result of absolute love for something or utter dislike for another.
I love to read and in time have accumulated quite a number of various types of books. Of course there were some I did not like to keep and to reduce the clutter at home I gave away that which I was not able to sell. I wonder if this was a similar beginning to the Book Sale stores. How about the car cleaning service available in car parks? Could it be that the owner of the business is very particular about his car too and dislikes seeing them dirty?
As you walk around your neighborhood or drive along the streets of the city, pay closer attention to the surroundings. Take note of the things that catch your attention. When you get home, read and examine them. Isolate the problems. What are the things you saw that might have driven you insane, endlessly complaining, or wide-awake at night? I am sure that as you tell this to your family and friends, you also have suggestions that come to mind like, “Why don’t they do this or have that…” so on and so forth.
Problems always require a solution and solutions are opportunities waiting to be unraveled. So the next time a problem comes along, save yourself from having wrinkles on your face by just smiling and accepting the challenge to achieve something great.
Sweet dreams!!!
