CEBU IS THE #1 EMERGING BPO CITY IN THE WORLD

For the second consecutive year, Cebu City has been cited as the #1 emerging global outsourcing or business process outsourcing (BPO) city in the world, according to international consulting and strategic advisory firm Tholons.

In BPO parlance, an ‘emerging city’ is a location or region that is poised to capture an increasing share of the market and is on the verge of establishing itself as a leader in the global industry.  In contrast, ‘established cities’ are those that have already been recognized as premier destinations of outsourcing by BPO-based clients, especially those in the developed countries such as the U.S., the U.K., and Australia.
For example, the National Capital Region of Manila has been ranked by Tholons as the #4 established city for global outsourcing, trailing behind Indian stalwarts such as Bangalore and New Delhi.

Tholons’ ranking of the top emerging cities for global outsourcing in 2009 are as follows:

• Beijing (China)
• Krakow (Poland)
• Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam)
• Buenos Aires, Argentina
• Cairo, Egypt
• Sao Paulo, Brazil
• Shenzhen, China
• Hanoi, Vietnam

Cebu City ranked #1 in the list of Tholons’ top emerging global cities in 2008; in 2007, it ranked #4.
